Director of Finance Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance/VP of Finance to join our growing team.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for taking on a leadership role in financial decision-making that affects our firm and will provide financial input to the shareholders. The position will directly handle all finance and accounting functions and play a key role in developing and implementing financial procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of our firm. The position is responsible for the training and oversight of all financial operations from the firm’s Operations team, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and process improvement. The position will be directly responsible for the firm’s financial systems and processes, including system balancing, reconciliations, financial reporting and analyses, tax compliance and reporting, payroll, budgeting and forecasting. This position will also manage one other financial team member that is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting and who works as a backup for client billing.  This position will also work closely with our operations team which handles client billing, intake, and conflicts. The Details
  • Full-Time Position with expected hours of 40 hours per week, however additional hours may be required during certain times of year.

  • Located in our Denver or Boulder office but hybrid work once ramped up possible.
  • This position reports to the Managing Partner and works closely with our Shareholders and our Operations team.
Experience & Skills Required
  • BA in accounting, finance or similar. An MBA is a plus
  • Professional designation preferred (CPA, etc.)
  • 7+ years in senior financial managerial position
  • Experience with law firms or other professional services firms preferred
  • Strategic, forward thinking – experience with budgeting, modeling and forecasting
  • Experience leading & training a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in accordance with GAAP, as well as ability to implement new policies and procedures, as necessary, and to ensure they are upheld
  • Experience with unique and complicated compensation models
  • Experience with time and billing software
  • Expert level Excel knowledge (pivot tables, vlookups, conditional formatting, etc)
  • Ability to extract and clean-up raw data, as necessary, in order to understand, analyze, and present to non-financial end-users
Responsibilities
  • Full-firm Accounting, including all P&L, Balance Sheet, and Equity Statements
  • Responsible for management of one other finance team member and Operations team financial functions, ensuring timeliness and accuracy within all financial functions; ensures that GAAP and local trust accounting rules are followed
  • Strategic Modeling/Reporting (profitability analyses of employees, lines of business, etc.)
  • Cash management and forecasting
  • Shareholder distribution management and forecasting
  • Employee compensation and performance bonus reporting and forecasting
  • Management of relationships with outside tax accountants; reviews corporate IRS filings and shareholder tax basis
  • Compensation Analysis for shareholders and employees, including calculating monthly, quarterly and annual bonuses based on fees generated from hours worked and business development
  • Management of bank accounts, bank reconciliations, and banking relationships, implement and maintain integrity of account security practices (positive pay, ACH and wire security)
  • Detailed understanding of client billing processes; ability to ensure the team engages in the highest standards around client customer service; ability to audit billing procedures to ensure accurate client billing and delivery
  • Payroll, including oversight of monthly gross-to-net, taxes, deductions, and contributions
  • Management of 401(k) and Profit Sharing, including 401K match calculations, handling of employee and firm contributions, and working with third-party administrator to ensure safe harbor compliance
  • Oversight of annual W-2 and 1099 issuances
  • Oversight of property, personal property, and use tax calculations and filings (Denver and Boulder)
  • Oversight of credit card reconciliation
  • Oversight of expense tracking, approval, and reconciliation
  • Management of billing and accounting software integration, ensuring that data across all systems is reconciled
  • Trust Accounting and adherence to the Colorado Supreme Court and the North Carolina State Bar trust account regulations
  • Ad hoc financial analyses, as requested by shareholders
  • Management of shareholder investment accounts and holding companies
Pay Range and Benefits

Salary range is between $150,000 and $180,000. KO benefits include:
