Director of Finance/CFO Job Description

Koenig, Oelsner, Taylor, Schoenfeld & Gaddis (KO Law Firm) is a corporate and business law boutique with offices in both Denver and Boulder, Colorado. We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance or CFO to join our growing team.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for taking on a leadership role in financial decision-making that affects our firm and will provide strategic financial input to the shareholders. The position will directly handle all finance and accounting functions and play a key role in developing and implementing financial procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of our firm. The position is responsible for the training and oversight of all financial operations from the firm’s Operations team, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and process improvement. The position will be directly responsible for the firm’s financial processing, tracking and reporting activities including income auditing, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable collection, performance management reporting, tax compliance, tax reporting, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, account reconciliation and profit and loss reporting. The Details
  • Full-Time Position with expected hours of 40 hours per week, however additional hours may be required during certain times of year.

  • This position reports to the Management Committee of our partnership group but works closely with our Operations team.
Experience & Skills Required
  • BA in accounting, finance or similar. An MBA is a plus
  • Professional designation preferred (CPA, etc.)
  • 7+ years in senior financial managerial position
  • Experience with law firms or other professional services firms preferred
  • Strategic, forward thinking – experience with budgeting, modeling and forecasting
  • Experience leading & training a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with and report to several managers
  • Experience with unique and complicated compensation models
  • Excellent Quickbooks Online knowledge
  • Advanced Excel knowledge (pivot tables, VBA, conditional formatting)
  • Experience with Business Intelligence queries
  • Experience with expense reporting (Expensify) and/or time and billing software (RocketMatter) a plus
Responsibilities
  • Full-firm Accounting, including all P&L, Balance Sheet, and Equity Statements
  • Responsible for management of Operations team financial functions, ensuring timeliness and accuracy (monthly invoicing, A/R statements, Accounts Payable)
  • Provide guidance to shareholders on pricing and rate structures
  • Strategic Modeling/Reporting (profitability analyses of employees, lines of business, etc.)
  • Cash management and forecasting
  • Shareholder distribution management and forecasting
  • Performance Management and employee performance bonus forecasting
  • Management of relationships with outside tax accountants; review corporate IRS filings and shareholder tax basis
  • Compensation Analysis for shareholders and employees, including calculating monthly and annual bonuses based on fees generated from hours worked and business development
  • Management of bank accounts and banking relationships, implement and maintain integrity of account security practices (positive pay, ACH and wire security)
  • Reconciliation of client ledgers; working directly with client A/P teams as needed
  • Payroll, including oversight of monthly gross-to-net, taxes, deductions, and contributions
  • Management of 401(k) and Profit Sharing, including enrollment, annual IRS Form 5500, true-ups, and working with third-party administrator to ensure safe harbor compliance
  • Oversight of annual W-2 and 1099 issuances
  • Property/Use Taxes (Denver and Boulder)
  • Credit Card and Bank Account Reconciliation
  • Management of expense tracking, approval, and reconciliation
  • Management of billing and accounting software integration
  • Trust Accounting and adherence to Supreme Court of Colorado trust account regulations
  • Management of tax implications of remote workers
  • Ad hoc financial analyses, as requested by shareholders
  • Management of shareholder investment accounts and holding companies
Pay Range and Benefits

$140,000 – $200,000 base salary based on experience, with a 10% bonus target.

KO currently offers employees generous health care benefits, opportunity to participate in a 401K plan with firm match, and profit sharing plan which can result in approximately $30,000 of firm contributions to benefits and retirement. KO also offers a transportation or parking stipend and technology stipend.
